Kampala erupted in celebration as the Uganda Cranes sealed their qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a historic 2-1 victory over Tanzania at Mandela National Stadium on Saturday evening.
Goals from Emmanuel Okwi and substitute Moses Waiswa — the latter a stunning 87th-minute winner — sent over 40,000 fans into delirium, ending Uganda's 42-year absence from Africa's biggest football tournament.
Head coach Micho Sredojević praised the team's resilience: "The boys showed the heart of champions tonight. This is for every Ugandan."
The Cranes will join Group C at AFCON 2027, hosted across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, where they will face Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde.
