Maize grain prices at Kisenyi and Nakasero wholesale markets have hit UGX 3,200 per kilogram, the highest level since September 2024, as export demand from South Sudan and Kenya depletes domestic stocks.
The National Food Reserve Agency warns that continued exports at current rates could trigger shortages by May. MAAIF is considering a temporary export cap.
