Most visitors to eastern Uganda make a beeline for Sipi Falls — and rightly so. But beyond the famous three-tiered cascade lies a network of 12 lesser-known waterfalls scattered across the western slopes of Mount Elgon, each accessible through community-managed nature trails.

"We want tourists to stay longer and spread their spending across multiple communities," says tour guide Moses Gidudu, president of the Mount Elgon Guides Association. Trail fees of UGX 20,000 per person go directly to village conservation funds.

The best time to visit is February–April and September–November. Mega FM recommends staying at the Sipi River Lodge or the community-run Kapkwai eco-camp.
