The Wakiso District Health Officer, Dr Bernard Lubowa, has ordered the immediate closure of all primary schools in Nansana and Kira Town Councils after 14 cholera cases were confirmed within 72 hours — a sharp escalation from the two index cases reported on Saturday.

Two children, aged 6 and 8, are in critical condition at Mulago National Referral Hospital. The Ministry of Health has dispatched an emergency response team and is tracing over 200 contacts.

"The contamination source has been traced to a borehole serving the Nansana central area," Dr Lubowa said. "We have shut it down and are distributing water purification tablets."

Parents are urged to keep children hydrated and report any symptoms of watery diarrhoea to the nearest health centre immediately.
