The Ministry of Health has launched a month-long Free Cervical Cancer Screening Campaign at all government health centres III and above across Uganda, targeting women between the ages of 25 and 49.
Uganda has one of the highest cervical cancer incidence rates in the world at 47.5 per 100,000 women, according to the WHO. The campaign uses VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) screening, with same-day treatment for pre-cancerous lesions.
"Early detection saves lives," said Dr. Doreen Mulenga, Director of Non-Communicable Diseases. "We encourage every eligible woman to come forward — this service is completely free."
