Uganda has recorded a remarkable 30% drop in malaria cases in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.
The decline follows the completion of a mass long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) distribution campaign that reached over 4.2 million households across 22 high-burden districts in Northern and Eastern Uganda.
Health Minister Dr. Ruth Aceng hailed the results as "a turning point in Uganda's fight against malaria," attributing success to community health worker engagement and improved GPS-targeted distribution.
However, officials cautioned that sustained funding is critical, noting that LLIN coverage degrades after three years.
