Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has approved a UGX 15 billion comprehensive modernisation plan for Nakasero Market, Kampala's oldest and busiest fresh-produce market.
The plan includes a four-storey modern market building with cold storage facilities, escalators, a rooftop car park and dedicated waste management systems. Construction is set to begin in June 2026 with completion targeted for December 2027.
"Nakasero Market is the heartbeat of Kampala's food supply chain," said KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka. "It deserves world-class infrastructure."
Existing vendors will be temporarily relocated to a purpose-built site on Port Bell Road during construction.
